As of the writing of this entry, the old house in San Leonardo, the house that Nanay and Tatay, my maternal grandmother and grandfather, built is being torn down. It is to be replaced by something that my brother Jason designed.
My mother's family abandoned the house more than 20 years ago to live in places as far away as Canada. It was left to the mercy of a relative who cared not about the memories that the house held but had the gall to covet the land on which it stood.
When I was younger, I, together with at least one cousin dreamt that we will save the house from destruction and have it repaired back to the way it was when we were young. All we need to do was to save enough money for it.
Alas, time and other cares caught up with us. My heart bleeds for it does not want to let go.
Nostalgic ka rin pala :) Just to share, I have a habit of revisiting places where something special happened to me. I do it just for kicks. When I get to the place, I just stand there and reimagine what happened over and over again and smile. It's relaxing to do. It can be destructive, though, pag laging ginagawa. Just like how I used to always visit XS nung first sem, first year. :))
TumugonBurahinWow interesting modification on the gable roof.
TumugonBurahinThings come and go. Savor the memories while they last, and build new ones along the way. :D
before i let you go, i want to say, i love you. wohohooooooo!
TumugonBurahinI like the overall feel of the design. However, I wish some of the elements of the old house were retained. That way the connection with the past would not be totally cut. But my brother is not the nostalgic type.
TumugonBurahinYup, but not as much as when I was younger. For example, had this house been demolished 10 years ago, marami sana akong opinyong nasabi. But now, I am silent about the whole matter and after seeing the state that the house was in, even supportive of the whole plan.
TumugonBurahinIba pala talaga ang in love. Lahat ng nakikita (or in this case nababasa) eh nakukulayan ng pag-ibig! Yeyey!
TumugonBurahinHmmmm. You are very right, nostalgia can be destructive if a person just wallow in the past and in the process fail to grow and to move on. But you did not visit us in XS that many times during the period that you mentioned to the point that I thought you have forgotten about it!
TumugonBurahinPhilip, why not tell them to save the windows? These are the best and easy parts of an old house that can be repaired.
TumugonBurahinI got myself 3 or 4 pieces. But the rest of the woods are being bought wholesale by designers from Manila, I think.
